Salaries and Benefits for Co-teachers Figures listed are for the 2011-12 School year. Co-teachers at Hong Kong Academy assume many teaching duties and are seen as an integral part of the teaching and learning program in the Primary School Section. Each class section in the Primary School has an assigned Co-teacher who works closely with the class teacher. Salary Entry level salary determination A co-teacher’s entry level is ranked as Step 0 when joining Hong Kong Academy. A step is credited for each year of a full-time co-teacher. The maximum salary level is step 8. Salary increases in subsequent years Upon contract renewal, co-teachers move up one step for each year working with class teachers in Hong Kong Academy. The maximum salary level is 8. Salaries are paid for 10.5 months of the school year while the school is in operation (excluding July and half of August). During the school year all Co-teachers are entitled to regular school holidays.   Employment Benefits for Co-Teachers PENSION If you are required or elect to participate in the provident fund, the school will match your actual employee contribution up to $1,000. SICK LEAVE 10 days sick leave per annum. BEREAVEMENT LEAVE Bereavement Leave (a death in the immediate family-parent, sibling, child, or spouse) of 5 days. OTHER LEAVE WITH PAY 2 days per annum upon approval of Head of School. LANGUAGE SUPPORT Free Mandarin language lessons. INSURANCE International medical, hospitalization & travel insurance (including basic dental). Worker's compensation insurance per Hong Kong law. TUITION SUBSIDIES Tuition subsidies HKA enrollment for 1 dependent child (based on length of service). PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT All staff have access to a pool of professional learning funds which they may apply to use. School-initiated Professional Development is paid for directly by the school. Part-time Co-teachers are paid pro-rata of benefits based on the percentage of a full-time employment Please note teachers are responsible for their own taxes.
